I would like to welcome you to my blog, "Chicago Railfanning", which focuses on my railfanning excursions in the Chicago metropolitan area. Because I currently reside in the western suburbs of Chicago, Metra Zone C, the majority of blog posts will be centered around trains in this region. My favorite places to film trains in this area are the Melrose Park, Brookfield, and River Grove Metra stations, the latter I haven't had the opportunity to visit since late October 2012.
I am the owner of a very interesting YouTube channel that is centered around trains, that channel being METX210. It is named in honor of my most favorite Metra locomotive, an F40PHM-2 known as 210, which, to the best of my knowledge, is the only locomotive owned by Metra to have traveled each of Metra's diesel lines from one end to the next. On there, you will find over 400 videos, most of which feature trains on the Union Pacific West Line.
Now here's a little info about me, the blog author, so you can get to know me better. This may surprise you, but I am a female, 26 years young. I am a born-again railfan, experiencing a passion for trains again in June 2011, about a month after moving back to the area in the city of Chicago where I was born and spent over half of my life, the west side. During my first 12 1/2 years of life, I lived within walking distance of five railroads, including one that was literally steps from my front door, a spur track of the UP Geneva Sub that led to UP's Global One Yard at 14th and Western. I was very fond of trains when I was a little girl, but lost my passion for them in early November 1997. Never did I love trains again, until a couple years ago after moving into a building adjacent to the UP Geneva Sub, the railroad I grew up by. Several things prompted me to become a railfan again, including seeing that odd little locomotive, METX 210, pushing and pulling trains along the UP West Line. Now here I am today, February 2013, with a YouTube account named after that locomotive, HO scale, and beginning in March, N scale, model trains in my possession, and plans on becoming a railroader in 2014.
I look forward to chatting with you soon. Until then, enjoy the blog posts, and my videos on YT.
